Doug (Tex)
My name is Mac and I have been fishing for
about 52 years now and I have fished with guides from Florida to California
in fresh and salt water. I enjoy all kinds of fishing and going with Doug
was definitely one if not the best fishing trips of my life. His continuous
dialog about how and why he was doing things was a wealth of knowledge that
even I will be able to use. He also is extremely focused on ensuring that
the client has every opportunity to catch the fish of a life time which is
what I did. It took everyone in the boat because of the high winds and
rolling seas to land the monster blue cat but when Doug put him on the
scales he was an honest 50 pounds. My personal best and big enough to win a
chicken fried steak for me and Doug. My partner Dale caught a 37 pounder and
still has to buy but was very happy with the results of the trip. We also
put 43 other fish up to 10 pounds in the boat on a miserably cold windy day.
Doug out performed any guide I've ever been with and I will go again as soon
as I get over the soreness. Thanks again Doug for the memory that will last
forever.

Regarding our trip with Tex on April 4th. of 2005 we went out with him one
morning and we had a great time with the Master. We caught a bunch of fish I
lost a few bigggggg ones to the trees but what the heck ended up with some
good eating fish including a 13lb.Blue Here is a picture of Don and I with
our catch. This was the trip he donated as a prize and I won it. Lucky
me! Still saving our pennies for a repeat, Thanks again Tex for a great time
out on the water.

I've read all the posts about Tex and how good he is. Well, I finally had the chance to go out with him and Steve-O.
I would have posted sooner but the website was down. We went out last week, in the evening. Absolutely no wind and hot, hot, hot.
Tex was great. He taught me a ton about catfishing and we had a great time. The cats weren't very cooperative. We didn't catch as many as we wanted to, but when you're with Tex, do you ever catch as many as you want to?
I definately recommend Tex to anyone who wants to learn how to catfish and do it right.
He is an excellent teacher!
Thanks Tex, for a fabulous time and we will definately go out again.

I would like to say thanks to Tex. Man what a day. Even though this isn't my first time to fish the shallows, there is just something about those clickers going off that makes it more exciting then most types of fishing. I had a couple of times where I couldn't decide which rod to pick up because 4 were running. This was my first trip with Tex and I gotta say, hands down (that's for you Mike)...., if you ever get a chance to go out with Tex, do it!! You will definitely learn and have a great time: just remember to tell him, live well, so the fish doesn't go back in the lake icon_lol.gif We also had a first timer with us (Joe) and Tex spent alot of time with him teaching and coaching, and for me that's what these trips are really about. Again Tex, thanks for a GREAT time.

Well,
EGardner and I decided it was about time that we took Tex out on Lavon to show him how to catch some fish. Only thing was that he insisted on using his boat, fishing his spots, and doing everything for us! He was so bored by the time it was over that I think Ed even paid him so that he would cheer up! icon_eek.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif
Only kidding. Go with Tex if you want to learn. You can read it here a hundred times, but the trip is worth it. We had a blast. I am gettin tired so below is the best description of the trip that I can provide.
4 foot waves.
Tornadoes.
We go fishing anyway.
Catch some fish.
Catch some more fish.
Call it quits.
Drive 30 MPH in the dark with no spotlight.
Ed and I clean fish.
I clean my pants.

Boys, I gotta tell ya----that was a fun trip yesterday. Tex is a great guide and just lot's of fun to fish with. As ya'll know, I've got my own boat so I was mainly looking for education. Tex answered every question I had and volunteered more information than I'll ever be able to remember. Tex, thanks again---my money was well spent. As far as the action, I don't care what a bass fisherman says--you ain't lived till you hang into a near 30 pound blue cat in 2 feet of water!!! When I nailed that 27.5 he boiled the water in a circle about the size of the boat!!! Great fun!!!

Seems like the fish were scattered in the shallow water but we managed to catch a couple of fish everywhere we stopped. Most of the fish were caught in 2-7 ft. of water and generally near brush.

Just wanna say thanks tex for the fun day of fishing.
Riverrat and I went out with tex today and had a blast. This was the first time i've ever fished with a guide and i must say that tex has set the standard for what a guide should be to me. He answered every question i had during the day and explained everything. He didnt just put us on some fish but he explained why he chose certain spots/ baits/setup/etc... To me thats how a guide should be...not just getting his clients into fish but teaching them how to catch fish on their own and congrats riverrat on the new personal best!!!
What can a man say about fishing with Tex? He is one of the best guides I have fished with. He worked hard to make sure we had a great trip, witch we did. Ofcourse! We could not get the big ones to bite, but we caught a mess of box fish. Just wanted to say thanks for a great time. Can't remeber everyone we mey, but Tex, anyfishwilldo and I beleive riverrat, It was nice meeting all of you. I will close with this one warning, This will not be the last time ya'll see this west texas boy!!!
Also it was fun fishing behind the dam. We caught 11 crappie and 2 sand bass.
