Jerry

I finally took some advice and instead of going fishing I went learning. Called Jerry Hancock and set up a trip. Went to some shallow water spots and I learned how to jig fish with jigging poles. I really didn't know fish were caught in this manner. Windy and rough but still managed to get 25 keepers, with about 15 -18 throwbacks, in just a few hours. I fired question after question at Jerry and he was very generous with the information. I can't recommend him enough. If you've been struggling, as I have, with putting crappie in the fryer...I suggest you go learning.

Thanks Jerry...I'll be in touch.

I was lucky to fish with Jerry on Sunday, who by the way

helped us out a lot and I know I learned a thing or three,

I saw the look on my partners face and I knew he had a great time!

I KNOW WE WILL DO THIS AGAIN SOON!

THANKS AGAIN JERRY AND PAUL, FROM A BELIEVER

Phillip and I took our first guide trip with Jerry, and 2 more after that.  He was very informative, patient, and worked hard to keep us on fish.  All of our trips were very successful and at Lavon sometimes that can be a challenge.  I would highly recommend him to everyone.  Jerry is an all around good guy and would do anything he could to help you.  Sharon Wilson

Went out with Jerry Hancock and Arborist yesterday. Words cannot describe everything I learned.

We kept 75 fish and caught, the Lord only knows exactly how many more. Lots of missed fish, lots of fish hooked and then got off, lots of fish hooked and coming out of the water...only to flip off the hook (now, all of those were intentional, as how we were practicing a new "catch and release" method that would not stress the fish by handling them with our hands......really), lots of fish thrown back. We might have caught between 130-150 fish. We never kept count of the throw backs.

We caught all of our fish using jigs. We fished jigs under corks to start out with and later switched to jigs. Color did not seem to matter. The fish were suspended from say 2-7 feet or so. We caught both males and females getting ready to spawn.

Here are just some of the things that I so much appreciated about Jerry. We would hit dry spells were we would fish and fish with not a single bite. Jerry stayed with the plan of attack and we just kept moving doing the same thing. We would move in and out of fish concentrations and then just load up. Many times we had doubles and even triples on, fishing in opposite directions in the boat, front, side and back of the boat.

I enjoyed all of the teaching aspects that Jerry would share. Let me tell you a few of the things that I learned with Jerry. The bite often was just a very small, simple "tick". I would try to set the hook and then miss. (1) I learned that when I felt that tick "stop reeling and don't move"...the crappie would more times than not, come right back and get it again. (2) The wind was blowing so hard that it would put a big rainbow in my line. Jerry taught me that "even if you don't feel a bite, if you see that bow suddenly go straight.....YOU"VE GOT A FISH ON". (3) I learned about the habits and patterns of crappie and what I could expect. (4) Lure presentation was key, color not so much. We used all types of colors and styles.

We caught our fish under the railroad tressle at Mallard Park, on a brush pile in 8 feet of water. "wink"

Jerry taught me lessons about fishing that I can now go out and apply all over the lake and in any lake around. I feel like I am better prepared to take my kids out fishing and depending on the wind, etc., I can adjust my approach to fit the conditions and still put the kids on fish.

Final observation for me personally: I wish that those pesky yellow bass would put on some size. I caught enough to feed a small army but they're all so small. LOL. I was just trying to get those yellow bass out of the way so Jerry and Arborist could get on the crappie.

Take a trip with Jerry, you'll learn tons of information that would take you years to gather. Jerry is not only a great guide he is an awesome teacher. Being in the education business, I know a good teacher when I see one and he is one great teacher!
